Vendor Spotlight: PocketVites

It is finally here! Spotlight #1. Spotlighting vendors in the wedding industry is very important to me. It not only fosters relationships and allows us to serve our couples better, but it gives you insight into some of the best in the business and helps you make informed decisions about who to involve in one of the most important days of your life. Anyone that helps make your wedding process go smoother is worth celebrating!

So without further ado, let me introduce Kylie of Pocketvites. Gorgeous, one of a kind wedding invitations and stationary to show off your personal style!

First off, tell me a bit about yourself.

Hello there, my name is Kylie, and I am a Freelance Graphic Designer. I graduated with an Advanced Diploma from the three year Graphic Design program at Fanshawe College in London Ontario. I love design, and being creative. When people ask me what I do, I always say "I make things look pretty!"

I love that! So what is it about design that you love so much, what got you interested in design?

I have always been a creative person, whether it be drawing, art, photography, music. I've always had an eye for that kind of thing. I knew in high school that I wanted to have a career, but at the same time enjoy what I was doing. I didn't want the typical 9-5 punch in numbers all day type of thing, thats not who I am, and it is not what I am good at. I was always told to make sure I picked a career that I enjoyed and could be passionate about, so that is exactly what I did. I love what I do!

What exactly is PocketVites?

PocketVites is a company I founded that is separate from all of my commercial design work. It was my chance to have more fun and be even more creative with my ideas. PocketVites is a custom solution to handmade pocket fold invitations. My company specializes in creating unique invitations and other stationary needs. Invitations for everything from weddings/galas, birthdays, or any special event. They are so much fun to create just for you and the possibilities are endless!

Where did the pocket idea come from?

Pocket fold invitations are very popular at the moment, especially in the wedding industry. They are very elegant and customizable. They have a unique fold to them that allows them to fit into an envelope to be mailed out regularly but also hold multiple things at the same time. When you send out an invitation, there are many pieces that go with it, for example the RSVP, a map and directions, the listing of the wedding party, pictures from the engagement etc. There are also many different styles of pocket folds to choose from, they vary from small to large to rectangular or even square. There are so many options to choose from. It all depends on the needs of the client.

So what makes PocketVites stand out from other invitations?

Well I would say YOU...the client. PocketVites are completely custom made. They are hand made from your thoughts and ideas. From beginning sketches to the custom design work that goes into them. There is no template work going on here. What the client wants, they can get. You have a theme? We can do that. Putting the invitations together is even done by hand. Some clients want little intricate pieces like lace, bows, and crystals on their designs. You can't get that simply by buying a set from a craft or paper store.

What advice do you have for a couple planning out the invitations for their wedding?

I have dealt with a number of couples and most of them make the same mistakes. Most of them come from trying to handle all of the wedding stationary by themselves. They don't think about the little details such as: "How am I going to print all the addresses for my guest lists onto these envelopes? What about the return envelopes?" Most of them end up writing them out by hand. Which is very tedious. They also end up going to multiple printing places trying to get all the last minute stuff done. Trust me, there is enough stuff you have to worry about. With PocketVites, I handle all that finicky stuff for you. I handle everything from design to printing and finishing (including mail merging those envelopes). PocketVites does more than invitations. We handle seating charts, table cards and numbers, menus, thank you cards. The list goes on and on. All of your wedding stationary needs are covered. Best of all, with everything being done in one place, everything looks consistent. Everything is as unique and elegant as you are, and you do not need to stay up until 2am trying to glue the crystals on by yourself. Get that beauty sleep!

Where does your inspiration come from?

Everywhere! A creative mind is a fun one I guess. Things come to me, or I will see things and put my own spin on it. Again, it all comes from being able to understand your clients thoughts and ideas and translating them into personal designs. Not everyone is the creative type, but they know what they like, what they want, and what they don't want. It is important to be able to get a feel for an idea someone has in their head and be able to produce that idea through skilled design. That is what I do.... and I love it.

What do you do when you're not working?

Well, I work full time as a graphic designer, so when I am not working I have the time to do my freelance Design work with Pocketvites. So, I do a lot of working. At least when I am doing work from home I have my cat Cleo as an assistant. But when I am not doing any design work, I enjoy being outside: camping, hiking and canoeing. In the winter, I love to Ski. I am also a volunteer Pathfinder Leader for Girl Guides of Canada.

What would somebody be surprised to learn about you?

I love to sing. When I am in the car and the radio is on I am constantly belting out what ever is playing.

What does your perfect day look like?

Well, right now it is a warm summer day on the beach, white sand dunes and clear blue water. and of course a few friends
