If you have had to rethink your wedding plans you are not alone. If you are considering a smaller elopement style wedding this Summer or Fall let me be the first to encourage you to GO FOR IT!

I love elopements for so many reasons and think they are amazing. I have always loved photographing elopements because they are so intimate and I am here to show you why an elopement may just be perfect for you.

Elopements used to be a couple running away to be married without telling anyone. But today that is not really what they are. The word elopement is used to describe a small celebration between the couple and just their nearest and dearest. The people who will be there to celebrate with you are the people that you love most in the world and who love you most in the world. Every face you will see while you marry your best friend will be someone who has uniquely shaped your life. That is pretty special. Because there are so few guests it really gives me the opportunity to photograph everyone. This is not possible at a wedding with several hundred guests. Having intimate photos of all the people you love while they watch you get married is a gift in itself.

Elopements also take away all kinds of stress. It opens up the freedom to do pretty much whatever you want. With less people involved you can choose a location that may otherwise be off limits. Think of all of the beautiful outdoor options that are now open to you. You can perhaps splurge on unbelievable decor or on your dress if money is not going towards hundreds of guest plates. The freedom also extends to simply having an abundance of time. On a regular wedding day things can often feel a bit rushed but at an elopement you can have it exactly the way you want it and schedule as much time for photos and being with your family as you would like. This allows for some really amazing and candid imagery. We’ll have more time to explore different locations, stop for fast food to eat on the sidewalk or whatever else tickles your fancy. There are no rules here.

What I love most about elopements is that they strip everything down to what is most important. You and your love and your family. That is what marriage is all about. Your wedding, no matter what it looks like, is the start of many wonderful days together. In the end, you’ll be married to your best friend and that is the magic I see.
